DIRECT-TO-METAL G-THANE 4:1:1 POLYURETHANE COATING

G-THANE 4:1:1 Direct-to-Metal Polyurethane Coating

High-Performance Industrial & Automotive Protection

G-THANE 4:1:1 is a premium, two-component, direct-to-metal (DTM) aliphatic polyurethane coating engineered to deliver superior gloss retention, color stability, and robust corrosion resistance. By combining primer and topcoat properties into a single, high-build formula, G-THANE eliminates multi-step coating processes without compromising on long-term substrate protection. [1, 2]

Key Industries & Applicationsđźš— Automotive & Fleet Maintenance

G-THANE 4:1:1 significantly optimizes throughput in automotive refinishing, commercial fleet maintenance, and heavy-duty transport manufacturing. [1]

  • Self-Priming Efficiency: Eliminates separate primer application and curing steps, drastically reducing booth time and labor costs.
  • Direct-to-Metal Bonding: Formulated with advanced adhesion promoters that bond instantly to properly prepared steel, aluminum, and OEM finishes.
  • Fast Curing: Accelerates assembly, handling, and turnaround times, getting commercial vehicles back on the road faster.

🏗️ General Steel & Industrial Construction

From light commercial fabrications to heavy industrial infrastructure, G-THANE provides versatile, highly durable protection against harsh environmental exposures. [1, 2]

  • Scalable Application: Tailored for everything from small shop-applied components to large-scale structural steel installations.
  • Corrosive Resistance: Formulated to withstand UV radiation, chemical splashes, moisture, and mechanical abrasion.
  • Streamlined Inventory: One product serves as both the primer and finish coat, simplifying job-site logistics and minimizing product waste. [1, 2]

Drying & Curing Times (at 25°C / 50% RH)

  • Touch Dry: 30 – 45 minutes
  • Hard Dry / Handle Time: 4 – 6 hours
  • Full Chemical Cure: 7 days
  • Overcoating Window: Minimum 4 hours; Maximum 24 hours (Light scuffing required if maximum window is exceeded)

Surface Preparation & Application🛠️ Surface Preparation

To ensure maximum direct-to-metal bonding and performance, all substrates must be clean, dry, and free of contamination.

  • Mild Steel: Remove all oil, grease, and mill scale. Abrasive blast-clean to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2½ to create a uniform 40–50 micron profile. For small or light industrial projects, clean via mechanical sanding or wire-brushing to St 3 minimum. [1]
  • Aluminum & Galvanized Steel: Clean with an appropriate degreaser, follow with a light hand-abrasion (using a non-metallic pad) to remove any zinc salts or oxidation, and ensure a clean profile. [1]
  • Existing Coatings: Ensure the old finish is sound, clean, and soundly adhered. Scuff-sand with P320–P400 grit to create a mechanical anchor profile before application.

🎛️ Application Methods

  • Conventional / Airless Spraying: Highly recommended for optimal automotive and large-scale industrial finishes. Use a 1.4mm to 1.8mm nozzle setup for gravity-fed equipment.
  • Brush or Roller: Suitable for small components, touch-ups, or stripe-coating edges. Multiple coats may be required to achieve target dry film thickness.

Matt White Polyurethane Coating for Steel Sheets
Brendan van Rensburg on Aug 21, 2025
We at Kopano Signs, required a Matt White Paint Coating, to be applied to the back of the chromadek sheets, for the manufacturing of stop signs, that we supply for various road construction projects. Polymer Coatings Group provided us with a product that fulfilled our requirements. The Polyurethane Coating, supplied to us as a 3-in1 kit, was of excellent quality. It was easy to mix, dried easily and the adhesion to our required substrates is unmatched. Also, the colour in which you supplied, was an exact match to what was required in terms of the SANRAL specifications. Also the fact that the coating does not require the additional use of a primer makes our production quicker and cost effective. *We will definitely recommend your company to other people.
