A lesson has remained remarkably consistent throughout my experience with corrosion investigations, is the corrosion that causes the greatest financial damage, and it's rarely the corrosion everyone can see.

Visible rust usually tells you there's already a problem.
The real concern is what has been happening long before that.
▫ Moisture.
▫ Oxygen.
▫ Chlorides.
Over time, they find their way beneath damaged or deteriorating coating systems, quietly initiating corrosion where it often remains hidden from view.
From the outside, the coating may still appear serviceable.
Internally, deterioration continues.

Months later—sometimes years later—the first blister appears.
A small stain, a crack, a patch of rust.
What seems like a minor defect is often the first visible sign of a much larger problem already developing beneath the surface.
